Hollowford Centre Tourist Guide Video

Outdoor Adventure and Education In The Peak District.

The Hollowford Centre is the principal activity of the Lindley Educational Trust. The trust has been helping young people through some of life's transitions (primary school to secondary, school into work or higher education & moving into a leadership role at work) for over forty years. Hollowford aims to be a centre of excellence for the development of young people using outdoor learning.

The Centre is situated just outside the village of Castleton in the heart of the Peak District National Park, in the shadow of Mam Tor. The Centre was purpose built and offers comfortable accommodation, primarily in 4-bedded rooms with en suite facilities. Leisure options include table tennis, a pool table, TV & video, a stereo system, a karaoke machine and wireless internet access. There is a small 'tuck' shop and a licensed bar is available on request. A wide range of challenging activities are available to suit all abilities.

At Hollowford we put our clients first which means we aim to be as flexible as possible. With a range of both on-site and off-site activities, classrooms & conference facilities of various sizes, we are able to meet the requirements of any size and type of group. If you want Challenge and Adventure in a safe and stimulating environment, Hollowford is the ideal venue having excellent indoor and outdoor facilities. On-site activities include High & Low Ropes courses, a lagoon for raft building and other water activities, archery and much more. Our modern conference facilities, seating up to 70 people, are fully equipped with flip chart, OHP and digital projection. Being in the heart of the Peak District National Park, outdoor activities such as canoeing, caving, hill walking and rock climbing are all readily accessible.

We practice what we preach. Our instructors undertake adventurous pursuits all over the UK and worldwide. Why not let us help make your adventure, more exciting, stimulating and safe wherever you are planning to go? Our experienced and highly qualified instructors can complement your ideas and ambitions. We can assist with almost any outdoor venture anywhere in the UK and further a field. Exploring remote places has always been an inspiration to people. We can help you and your group plan, prepare and undertake your own adventure. We believe that individuals should be involved in every aspect of an expedition, that remote locations are stimulating, help bring out learning and that fulfilling an outdoor adventure helps people learn about themselves, gain in self-confidence and develop.

Outdoor Learning includes: outdoor play in the early years, school grounds projects, environmental education, recreational and adventure activities, personal and social development programs, expeditions, team building, leadership training, management development, education for sustainability, & adventure therapy. Outdoor Learning provides a contrast to the indoor classroom. Through skilled teaching, interpretation or facilitation, outdoor experiences readily become a stimulating source of fascination, personal growth and breakthroughs in learning.

Participants learn through what they do, through what they encounter and through what they discover. Participants learn about the outdoors, discover potential, abilities and interests that surprise themselves and each other, while also learning outdoor skills. Active learning readily develops the learning skills of enquiry, experiment, feedback, reflection, review and cooperative learning.

Safety codes provide clear boundaries and learning goals give clear direction, but Outdoor Learning draws in energy and inspiration from all around. 'Broadening horizons' is a common outcome.
