One of Northumberland’s finest courses awaits you at the beautiful
village of Bamburgh.
Perched on basalt outcrops overlooking the ancient fortress from which
it takes its name, Bamburgh Castle Club often referred to as the
most picturesque in England is also a fine game for all that play
it, being a regular venue for County and Inter-County events.
Gorse, heather, whinstone and rare fauna combine with views of Lindisfarne,
the Farne Islands and the Cheviots to make the location one of the most
stunning imaginable for any golf course.
Constructed on Kittling hillside overlooking the village in 1904, the
course’s early development owed much to the patronage of Bamburgh Castle’s
owner Lord Armstrong, but it is now owned by the Club, having been bought
by the members in 1999.
Whilst not long at just over 5,600 yards off the back markers, the course
is a demanding par 68. How you perform on the six par 3’s will often dictate
your score, their difficulty being exampled by the 6th, an uphill 224
yard hole which warrants its Stroke Index one. Good birdie opportunities
also await you however particularly on the three closing holes, where
there are two par 4’s under 300 yards.
