Tourist Video Of The Glass Blobbery

Glass Workshop, Visitor Attraction In North Wales.

The Glassblobbery is based in the old church hall at Glanrafon near Corwen. This is one of the most beautiful parts of North Wales and the United Kingdom. Well worth a visit.

David and Wendy Pryce-Jones started the Glass workshop at Glanrafon in October 1989.

Technically our work is known as lamp work or bench glass blowing. Each piece is created freehand within the tight confines of the flame area. The flame is over 2000°C and varying thicknesses of glass rod are used to build up the shape of the creation.

The finished item is then fired in the kiln to even out the stresses that build up while the object is being made; this process completed, it is taken into the staining room to have another intense handling for colouring. Mixtures of metal oxides are applied to the surface of the glass to give a range of varying hues. The different metals, once fired, give colours of gold, silver, pink, blue, green and we are always happy to have visitors to the workshop where individual travellers or small family groups can watch the glassblobber at it. We're open daily 10ish to 5ish. If you want to see glass being worked while visiting it is best to ring to check the blobber is at it. Please ring 01490 460440. We are always pleased to welcome individual and group visitors.

The demonstrations of flame working take place in our workshop area. Some of the things you can see being made are:-

  1. Glass Sculptures
  2. Glass Flowers
  3. Glass Dragons
  4. Valantines gifts
  5. Glass Birds
  6. Glass Animals
  7. Glass Containers

We have gifts for all occasions including birthdays, commemorative gifts, trophies and corporate gifts. We also make unique commission pieces and other items on request.
