Darlington, with its splendid village green and well-known local traditional
pubs a great place for eating or just relaxing. It also forms part of
the walkers' paradise - the Cleveland Way - it is excellent for ramblers
our cyclist to enjoy outdoor persuits.
Piercebridge provides an excellent base from which the outdoor enthusiast

It is built on the site of a Roman fort of AD 260-270, which was built
at the point where Dere Street crossed the River Tees. The settlement
has been in continuous use thereafter.
The remains of the Roman fort are open to the public and the remains
of the Roman bridge over the Tees lie around 100 yards south of the current
course of the river.
